State Police arrested 22 year old Dustin Dungey of Afton, for Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, Criminal Sexual Act, Sexual Abuse & Resisting Arrest last week, following an investigation that accuses Dungey of having inappropriate sexual contact with a child under the age of 13 in June. Dungey was arrested and was processed at State Police Troop C Headquarter in Sidney, he was transported to the Chenango County Central Arraignment and Processing where he was remanded to the Jail on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $500,000 secure bond.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Kyle Buckley of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Turn in New York State License, along with other violations, after Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester with no license plate lamps. Deputies conducted a check of Buckley’s driver’s license & found his driving privileges were suspended in New York. Buckley was released on the traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Zacharias Fuller on over 80 counts of Criminal Contempt. Fuller is an Otsego County inmate accused of violating a court order of protection, for contacting the protected party prior to his incarceration, and while incarcerated in the Otsego County Correction Facility violating the order of protection. Fuller was turned back over to Otsego County Correctional Facility where he was being held for prior offenses, he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Worcester Court on a later date.

Binghamton Police & Firefighters responded Saturday to the report of shots fired & smoke coming from at 56 Howard Avenue. Binghamton police said that a man and woman were discovered inside after the fire was put out, they were taken to area hospital where they were later pronounced dead. The investigation is continuing.

Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that 26 year old John Macrabie of Walton, was arraigned on a 4 count indictment in Delaware County Court. Macrabie was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors & Criminal Sexual Act, he is accused of sending a child naked pictures of himself to entice sexual acts, which allegedly occurred, in the presence of a 2-year-old child. Macrabie pleaded not guilty, he was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, the case is scheduled for a conference on September 5th.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to the apartments at 101 Hooper Road for complaint of shots fired. Deputies located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen on the lawn, he was taken to Wilson Hospital and was in stable condition following surgery. 25 year old Jeffrey Gates of Endwell was charged with Assault with a Weapon, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Reckless Endangerment, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, the investigation is continuing.

Sidney Resident, Businessman and Village Board member Jeremy Matviak passed away Thursday at the age of 48, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Matviak was a partner in the family business VEP/Waldrons in Sidney & he was recently elected to the Sidney Village board. Calling Hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street in Sidney, Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, also at C.H. Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday, afternoon to a work zone accident on the I-88 westbound bridge north of I-81. The investigation found that after a heavy downpour, an employee exiting a port-a-John was struck by a passing water truck traveling within the construction area in reverse, which ran over the worker’s legs and lower torso. The victim remained conscious was transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed a questionable placement of the portable facility, no charges have been filed, the accident report was sent to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced today that the USDA will release federal resources for an agricultural disaster designation for all 11 counties in Molinaro’s 19th District and 20 other counties in New York, in response to freeze and frost last May, which caused significant damage and losses to crops. The disaster designation allows farm operators to be eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans. Broome County District Attorney’ Office announced that 49 year old Kristina Doty pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault & will spend 5 years in jail. Doty admitted to causing physical injury to another person on March 12th, she injured a 63-year-old woman when she struck her in the head multiple times with a flashlight. Doty has a prior felony conviction for 2nd Degree Assault in 2015. She will be sentenced on November 16.

Norwich City Police arrested 2 men on drug charges, after they pulled over suspects accused of possessing illegal drugs. Police seized methamphetamines and heroin, they arrested 40 year old Anthony Torres of Utica & 39 year old Matthew Lamb of Norwich, they were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, both are facing court action shortly.

The Sidney Police Department arrested 49 year old Brian Kingsbury of Sidney for bail jumping, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, resisting arrest and a bench warrant from the Village of Sidney Court for failing to appear. Kingsbury will face action in Sidney Court on the charges shortly.

Local sales tax collections in New York state grew by 3% in July compared to the same month in 2022, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased over the month by 6,300, to 8,247,200 in July. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in July, the State’s labor force participation rate increased from 61.2% to 61.4% in July 2023, its highest level since October 2013.

The City of Norwich announced that a Water Main break occurred at South Broad Street near Hale & Hickok Street. Water service was disrupted in the southern part of the city, A Boil water order has been issued for all residents along South Broad Street from Browne Avenue to Prentice Street and residents along Rowley & South Rowley until further notice.

Broome County DA Mike Korchak announced that 57 year old Nicholas Vail was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison for 3rd degree robbery. Vail was arrested for robbing a market in Binghamton in February, he was previously convicted for robbery in 2019.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that the percentage of New Yorkers without health insurance declined every year since 2010 from 12% to 5.2% in 2021, well below the national average of 8.6%. Rates of uninsured New Yorkers are lower than the national average due to the state’s higher enrollment in public health insurance programs, which provided coverage to 4 in 10 New Yorkers in 2021. 4 arrests were made during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Troop “C” in Delaware County Tuesday. During the initiative, 26 businesses were checked, the 4 who were not in compliance were Carroll and Carver Wine & Spirits, Sidney, Breakey’s Liquor Store in Walton, Mirabito Quickway in Franklin & The Country Store in Roxbury. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that $6.3 million in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Program will be used for remediation of lead-based paint hazards in at least 180 qualifying privately-owned pre-1978 homes across Broome County. Estimates suggest that over 13,000 homes in Broome County built decades ago may still contain lead paint.

State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 38 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing construction work. 9 tickets were issued for speeding, 4 for using a cellphone while driving, 18 were seat belts violations & 9 other assorted tickets were issued last Thursday.

A contraband investigation led to multiple drug smuggling charges at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. 36 year old Jamell Jones was charged with 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, 2 Counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, plus Obstructing Governmental Administration. Jones became uncooperative, & was combative with investigators, Jones was placed in a Medical Housing Unit under Contraband Protocol to monitor his health and prevent a possible overdose from the Methamphetamines that were smuggled on his person. Jones was processed at the Broome County Correctional Facility and will answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court on a future date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office received on August 8th for a call of shots fired at a residence along State Highway 220 in the Town of Smithville, 49 year old April Chandler of Endicott was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment and Menacing. Chandler was processed and arraigned & was released & was ordered to return to the Town of Smithville Court at a later date. An order of protection has been issued for the victim. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be filed.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Robert Colson of Norwich following a lengthy investigation into the burglary of two Chenango County Gas Stations in late October of 2022. Colson is accused of forcing his way into the establishements and stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of tobacco products. The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presented the case to a Grand Jury where Colson was indicted for 3rd degree Burglary, 3rd & 4th Degree Grand Larceny, & 3 counts of criminal mischief. Colson was arrested Monday while he was incarcerated at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on separate charges, he was arraigned in Chenango County Court where he was remanded back to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and scheduled for a later day in court.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $38.6 million for housing projects across the state . In the Southern Tier, the YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County will receive $6.6 million to develop 38 units in Binghamton in Broome County & the Lisle Avenue Apartments will construct a 4-story building for the residential component and renovate an adjacent building to serve as a childcare center.

The State Comptroller’s office concluded an audit of the Morris Central School District recently. The Audit found that The board and district officials did not effectively manage the district’s fund balance, overestimating appropriations by an average of $617,000, or 6%, also surplus fund balance exceeded the 4% statutory limit in all 3 of the audited fiscal years by approximately $1.1 million to $2 million and 4 of the district’s 10 reserves were not reasonably funded, or were used to pay related expenditures.

Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant in Endicott, they arrested 34 year old Veronica Mitchell for 3 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 3 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, police seized Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials, Metal knuckles and a metal knuckle knife, plus $122.00 in cash, Mitchell was taken to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate a white male regarding a larceny that occurred Monday at the Price Chopper at 33 Chenango Bridge Road in the Town of Chenango. The subject is believed to be in his early to mid-thirties, approximately 5’8”, wearing a blue Adidas sweatshirt, black pants, a camouflage face mask & red shoes. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office reminds those interested in joining the Department, that the deadline is tomorrow to submit an application, mail in applications can be postmarked no later than August 11th. To obtain an application for OR to apply online or view additional vacancies or examinations go to otsegocounty.com, a fee of $25.00 is required for each separately numbered examination for which you apply. Examinations will be held on September 9th.

The National Weather Service office in Binghamton is currently conducting a storm survey following thunderstorms Monday So Far, investigators determined that an EF3 tornado struck Lewis County in the towns of Lewis and Turin, in Madison County, Munnsville saw an EF1 tornado & in Vernon and Taberg, in Oneida County, an EF1 tornado touched down.

Delhi Telephone, or DTC, continues to expand their Fiber Optic internet & cable services around the county, they have completed the infrastructure in several locations, & they are currently wrapping up work in Walton, Spokesman Jason Miller told WCDO News where they go next:

DTC was part of the state’s plan a few years ago to get Internet Services to under-served rural areas, they have since planned to get their infrastructure into bigger municipalities that have more traditional cable & internet services.

The State Department of Labor announced that its Division of Worker Protection investigators have recovered and returned over $11.7 million in stolen wages to 12,000 affected workers since January 1, putting the Department on track to recover $20 million in stolen wages this year. Over the past decade, they have recovered and dispersed more than $360 million in stolen wages, identified over a million misclassified workers, and assessed over $400 million owed in unemployment insurance contributions through both criminal cases and civil enforcement.

State Police announced that 15 year old Emily Clapper, who was reported missing recently, from the town of Winfield, has been located. Utica Police found Clapper & reported her in good health.

Delaware County Public Health will be holding a free Car Seat Safety Event at Delaware Opportunities Inc. 35430 State Highway 10 Hamden, from 3:30PM-5:30PM. 59% of children are riding in car seats that are not properly installed or do not fit correctly.
