State Police from Deposit arrested 22-year-old Brookleyn Foster of Endicott, for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .15%, along with other vehicle & traffic violations. The arrest resulted after Troopers responded to the report of a vehicle parked in the center median against the guide rail facing the wrong way on State Route 17 in Hancock. Foster was issued tickets returnable to the Village of Hancock Court on February 4th.

On January 7th Delaware County Deputies arrested Lee McDonald of Walton, for 2 counts of Issuing a Bad Check to a Deposit business, McDonald arrested on Saturday again & charged him with Issuing a Bad Check after receiving a bad check complaint from a Town of Kortright business. McDonald was issued an appearance in the Town of Kortright Court on February 17 to answer that charge.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a residential burglary that occurred on Sands Creek Road in the Town of Tompkins on December 5th. Guns and ammunition were taken from the residence and were recovered outside the home by the homeowner upon discovering the crime. Deputies are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and person in these photos from one of the home’s surveillance camera. Audits of special education providers across New York State have uncovered mismanagement that cost taxpayers nearly $42 million in the last decade, including $20 million in 2014 alone, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 11 audits identified more than $6.7 million in public funds that special education providers misspent or misused, including cases of possible fraud that have been referred to law enforcement for investigation. About 81,000 preschool students with disabilities receive services in New York annually at a cost of more than $1.4 billion to the state and localities.

The state’s Gaming Facility Location Board agreed Friday that they will reopen a bidding process for the Southern Tier that could result in a 4th casino license. Last month the board only recommended that 3 licenses be awarded, snubbing the Southern tier which was slated to be 1 of 4 casino options. Governor Cuomo urged the Gaming Commission to issue a new request for applications for a license in the Southern Tier. The location board is scheduled to hold a meeting Tuesday to discuss the new request; meanwhile, the owners of Traditions in Johnson City have backed down from their initial proposal & now support a full Las Vegas-style casino at Tioga Downs in Nichols.

The Oneonta Police Department responded to the Tanning Bed at 76 Chestnut Street for a report of a patron discovering another patron filming them inside of a private tanning room. 31 year old Christopher Demarco of Otego is accused of using his cell phone to film another patron getting undressed, Demarco was charged with Unlawful Surveillance, he is being held pending arraignment in City of Oneonta Court.

The Delaware county board of supervisors announced this week that new County Recycling center is running debt free as the county received grants. The success at the county recycling center follows another success story with the county compost facility generating revenue generated by the facility exceeded initial expectations, according to County Solid Waste Coordinator Sue McIntyre:

State Police at Oneonta arrested 41-year-old Amy Rezmerski of Binghamton for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana & speeding. The arrest was made after a vehicle stop for speeding over 80 miles an hour on I-88 in Otego, After detecting the odor of marihuana, the Trooper searched the vehicle and found 2 grams. Rezmerski was released after being issued tickets returnable to the Town of Otego Court on January 29th.

Governor Cuomo’s 2015 State of the State Address will be delivered to a joint session of the legislature on January 21st at 1:30PM at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Landowners in favor of hyydrofracking are preparing legal action to reverse the state’s recently enacted ban against the process to drill horizontally for natural gas in the Marcellus shale that under much of the southern tier. State Police at Oneonta arrested 45-year-old Michael Stein of Delhi for Driving While Intoxicated & other vehicle and traffic law violation. The arrest occurred following a 1-car roll over accident on Coe Hill Road in Davenport. Troopers accuse Stein driving while intoxicated and crashing when he was using his cell phone to send a text message. Stein was transported to Fox Hospital for minor injuries; he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Davenport at a later date.

18-year-old Shawn Burke of Norwich was arraigned this week on charges of 2nd degree burglary & petty larceny. Burke is accused of stealing an AK-47 rifle and other items from a residence in the City of Norwich, along with another unidentified teenager. state police responded to the report of an accident Monday night at around 7:40 PM on the East River Road in Walton, 31-year-old Travis Roloson of Delhi drifted off the road and into a tree, he was killed instantly. Roloson’s girlfriend, 25-year-old Melissa Brannock was a passenger in the vehicle, she suffered a broken leg, and was taken to a Binghamton area hospital. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A judge has ordered a psychiatric exam for 21-year-old Paul Bumbalo of Utica, who has been charged with 3 counts of 2nd degree murder of family members early Wednesday morning in Utica. Bumbalo’s case has been adjourned until February 9th when the results of the psychiatric exam will be released.

Congressman Chris Gibson announced the House passed the “Hire More Heroes” Act, a bill he co-authored to boost employment among veterans while providing relief to small business owners. The legislation allows businesses to hire veterans without having them count as full-time employees under the Affordable Care Act, currently companies with 50 or more full-time workers must provide health insurance for their employees, but Veterans already receive health benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense. The Hire More Heroes Act passed the House last year, but the Senate failed to consider it.

Utica Police charged 21-year-old Paul Bumbalo with 3 counts of 2nd degree murder at 1908 Whitesboro Street on the city’s west side. Bumbalo pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon, He is due back in Utica City Court early This morning, when the judge is expected to rule on the defense attorney’s request for a psychiatric evaluation for Bumbalo, who is being held in the Oneida County Jail.

State Troopers arrested 36-year-old Diana Leonard of Hancock on a 2nd degree Burglary charge. The Arrest followed an investigation of a December burglary where property was taken from a seasonal residence. Leonard was arraigned in the Village of Hancock Court and released without bail required.

The Roxbury arts group will have an exhibit by late area artist David Byrd January 17th through February 21st, much of that work was inspired by Byrd’s work as an orderly in a psychiatric ward with patients suffering from a variety of mental illnesses. Jury Selection began yesterday in Broome County Court for the trial of Nigel Saunders, who was charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, plus 2nd degree assault, 1st degree burglary and 1st degree robbery. Saunders is accused, along with Julian Talamantez of breaking into the home of Jordan Dordell in Binghamton on November 4th 2013, where they allegedly beat, stabbed and set on fire Dordell & His pregnant Fiancé; she was also sexually assaulted in the attack. Saunders and Talamantez then allegedly stole from the home and set it on fire. Talamantez pleaded guilty for his role in the case last year, he was sentenced to 25 years to life in jail. Jury selection in the Saunders trial continues this morning in Broome County Court.

Endicott native & UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones has entered a drug rehab facility, after failing a drug test last month. Jones tested positive for a substance, found in cocaine. Jones released a statement where he stated that he has entered into a drug treatment facility.
