The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s assistance on locating Derek Crouse, who is wanted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Grand Larceny. The State Cannabis Control Board voted to extend the adult-use cannabis license application window from December 4th until December 18th, to all adult-use license types. The Board moved to extend the application window in response to positive interest from New Yorkers, The priority application period for micro-business and retail applicants who have proof of control over a location was also extended from November 3rd to November 17th.

The Tioga County Grand Jury forwarded indictments to the Tioga County Court regarding the Thomas Rath Kidnapping & Murder case. Arraigned in the Tioga County Court were 37 year old Joseph Howell, for 1st & 2nd degree Murder, kidnapping & intimidating a witness, 31 year old Colleen Dillon for 1st & 2nd degree murder & kidnapping, 39 year old Kysha Radcliff for kidnapping & 31 year old Jonathan Glennon, for 1st & 2nd degree murder and kidnapping, 11 people were charged in the case, Additional indictments are pending.

The Broome County Special investigations Unit Task Force arrested 26 year old Hosam Alghem of Endicott and 23 year old Connor Huttleson of Endicott for Tax Fraud after a search warrant uncovered untaxed cigarettes and unauthorized cannabis products at Smoker’s Choice at East Main Street in the Town of Union. Officers seized 73 cartons of untaxed tobacco cigarettes, Several pounds of various packaged items containing cannabis & $1,560 in cash. The 2 were released on appearance tickets for town of Union Court, The case has been referred to the Office of Cannabis Management.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that more than $8.8 million has been awarded to projects to create more housing. Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, will receive $4.3 million to develop 17 units including 50 beds of permanent housing for chronically homeless individuals and families in New Berlin. The project includes the preservation of seven existing units and 10 newly constructed units, as well as the moderate rehabilitation of three buildings and the gut rehabilitation of another.

Binghamton Police closed down Main Street & ordered a lockout of the Binghamton schools, at 2:55 PM Monday. Police responded to a report of shots fire, the lockout was suspended 30 minutes later & students went home, one person was in custody & more details will be released later today.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20 year old Anton Becker-Harris of Binghamton for Unlawful Fleeing, Reckless Driving after he allegedly drove on sidewalks in Binghamton early Friday. Deputies observed Becker Harris drive a motorcycle on the sidewalk and on the grounds of Calvin Coolidge Elementary School, they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcycle sped away, Deputies found the motorcycle hidden behind a dumpster with Becker-Harris & his female passenger walking nearby. Becker-Harris was taken into custody without incident, was processed & faces court action at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 33 year old Adam McKrell of Port Crane for 3 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, plus Unlawful Imprisonment, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration & Harassment, after a physical domestic incident in the Town of Fenton. Deputies responded Friday to the Town of Fenton, McKrell was outside yelling at his girlfriend & was preventing her from leaving the premises. McKrell refused to comply with deputies, resisted arrest and after a State Trooper deployed a Taser on him, he was taken into custody. McKrell is accused of striking the female in the presence of 3 children, he was arraigned at central arraignment and released. He is due to appear in the Town of Fenton Court at a later date.

Fox Hospital and attempting to steal money and personal identification information from victims. The suspicious emails reads: “A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital is pleased to extend an offer of employment to you a the full-time position”, it prompts the reader to “scan a copy of personal forms of identification for employment verification,” Bassett Healthcare Network will never ask potential job seekers for any forms of payment or personal documents prior to a genuine job offer. State Police at Troop C removed 53 impaired drivers off the roadways in September. 1 of those impaired drivers also had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle, 7 had a B.A.C higher than .18%, 2 had been previously convicted of DWI in the last 10 years and 9 drivers were under the influence of drugs.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Dylan Shoemaker of Chenango Forks pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Assault, in Broome County Court Friday. Shoemaker admitted that on February 6th, he assaulted a State trooper, when police responded to a residence on Perch Pond Road in Windsor following the report of a domestic dispute. 1 trooper was hit in the face and the same trooper was cut by glass as he wrestled Shoemaker to the ground, he was treated and released at a local hospital. Shoemaker has a lengthy criminal history, he will be sentenced to 12 years to life in New York State prison on January 12.

State Police continue to investigate the disappearance of Erica Franolich 37 years after she went missing from Middleburgh, she was 26 years old when she went missing. Franolich was originally from Michigan and last spoke to her family on October 13, 1986. After being unable to make contact with Erica, her out of state family reported her missing. Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Devyn Wilcox of Harpursville on 27 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of disorderly conduct on Thursday. Deputies responded Thursday afternoon to the Harpursville School District Bus, Wilcox is accused of entering the stopped bus and began yelling, screaming, swearing and threatening juveniles, according to witnesses & video. There were 30 students from elementary school to high school ages on the bus. Wilcox was taken into custody without incident at his residence, he was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility and released on appearance tickets for the Town of Colesville Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

38 year old Mark Archer of Oneonta was indicted for 12 felonies and arraigned in Delaware County Court Wednesday for alleged sexual crimes against children. The Indictment accuses Archer of 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, 2 counts of 1st degree Rape, as well as Criminal Sexual Act & 4 counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child. Archer was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $75,000 cash bail, or $750,000 bond. The case is scheduled for a conference on October 30th.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21 year old Bryce Barnhart of Cortland following a motor vehicle pursuit which began in the Town of Springfield and continued into Schoharie County on Tuesday. Barnhart was charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer, Failure To Comply, Reckless Driving & Speeding & Speeding in a Construction Zone, he is accused of traveling up to 118 miles on U.S. Highway 20 in the Town of Springfield, & for hitting another vehicle while exiting a parking lot. Barhart was processed and released on an Appearance Tickets in both Counties at later dates.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a new emergency order that prevents New York City residents from using housing vouchers in Broome County. County officials said the vouchers are part of a New York City program which provides a housing allowance to eligible city families in a shelter or who are homeless. Garnar previously issued an executive order earlier this year that allowed for law enforcement to order busses with migrants to turn back around & not stop in Broome County, as the County was facing its own housing issues.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Undersheriff Sam Davis welcomed K9 Raven to the Sheriff’s Office today. K9 Raven and her partner and handler, Deputy Thomas Holden have undergone extensive training at Cedar Creek Kennels in Illinois over the past few weeks and are set to conclude their training this month. Raven is a female German Shepherd trained in tracking, protection, drug detection and other skills needed for law enforcement K-9 units.

A new survey on school safety has been released that places New York State near the bottom, ranking 45th out of 50 for overall student safety. Susquehanna SPCA announced 2 programs in October made possible by grants from the ASPCA in partnership with Subaru. Five Star Subaru in Oneonta will donate $100 for every dog or cat adopted from the shelter, On Wednesday October 11 and on October 25, a special low-cost clinic supported by a $4,000 ASPCA grant will make spay or neuter procedures available for dogs of income-qualified individuals at a cost of $100 per dog. State Police and Emergency crews responded to a crash on I-88 eastbound in Colesville between exits 5 and 6 yesterday afternoon. An investigation revealed that a pick-up truck was pulling vehicles on a trailer, the operator lost control and rolled the vehicles, blocking both lanes. Some traffic was able to pass on the shoulder before the Interstate was shut down and travelers were re-routed off exit 5 to State Highway 7 then back on to I-88 at exit 6. The operator was a 51-year-old male of Elmira, He was treated on scene but did not wish to be transported to a hospital.

39 year old Orlando Torres of Binghamton was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for 2 counts of criminal possession of a Controlled Substance & 1 count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant on a Binghamton apartment, Officer seized 20 grams of fentanyl, Cash from drug sales and a digital scale. Torres faces up to 12 years in state prison when sentenced next month.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s office arrested 24 year old Kristen Knapp of Cooperstown following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident on September 23rd. Knapp was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI, Speed not reasonable and prudent, along with other charges following an accident at County Highway 33 and County Highway 11C in the Town of Middlefield. Knapp will appear in Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong’s passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.

2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. McCrady was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of stolen property, & criminal possess of a controlled substance, Wiggins was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Wiggins was released on an appearance ticket, McCrady was being for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a complaint regarding a group of students from Walton High School who received a message via a social media app, which contained threats to bomb the Walton School and cause harm to other students. Deputies responded to Walton and interviewed multiple students and it was determined that the threat was made after school hours and that an 18 year-old student of Walton High School did make threats to “bomb” the Walton High School. The juvenile was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that a plea deal was given to 35-year-old Bradley Law of Harpursville. Law admitted to operating the vehicle in a hit & run Crash that killed 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding hid Bicycle along Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs back on New Year’s Day. Law was sentenced to 1 1/3rd to 4 years in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and a weapons charge.

State Police reported that 16 year old Emily Clapper was located in good health in the city of Oneonta by Oneonta Police. Clapper was reported missing on October 2nd.

The Norwich & Vestal Walk-a-thon will be the only in-person events, the rest will be virtual, the Chenango County Child Advocacy Center in Norwich is one of the charities that will benefit from this effort. Walkers should register in advance with estimated miles to be walked at MatthewsWalkathon.Com or at Weiler Park on the day of the event. Matthews will distribute up to $150,000 to the charities based on the miles walked and the percentage of votes each charity receives during registration.
