The push continues to get New Yorkers vaccinated against COVID 19 as quickly as possible, State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker commented at a press conference at the rapid vaccination site at the Javitz Center in New York City this morning:

Mass vaccination sites are scheduled to begin opening in the upstate rural counties, the State University at Oneonta is scheduled to be one of those sites.

State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins & Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, are both calling for Governor Cuomo to resign, as allegations against Cuomo now exist from 4 women. Governor Cuomo said he will not resign, and said that he must be accorded due process, and he will cooperate with the investigation by Attorney General Letitia James office.

Chenango County Public Health reported 41 new COVID 19 cases since Friday, for a total of 2502 since the pandemic began; they report 75 active cases, 6 hospitalized & 275 quarantined. Chenango County has had 2270 recoveries, and they have administered over 84,700 tests.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Daniel Chisholm of Downsville Sunday afternoon in Delhi. Deputies observed a vehicle traveling north on Meredith Street at an excessive speed, Chisholm was stopped & a routine DMV inquiry revealed that Chisholm’ driving privileges had been suspended since 2019. Chisholm was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, speeding & having an obstructed driver’s view, he will face action in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The Otsego County Department of Health reported 147 new COVID 19 cases between Monday & Friday of last week, 47% of the new cases were among college students & college employees. 46 new cases were reported Friday, Otsego County reported 174 active cases, 1284 total cases in 2021, 9 were hospitalized & there have been 33 deaths in 2021.

Delaware County Public Health reported 24 new positive COVID 19 cases Friday our of 356 tested, 13 new positive COVID 19 cases Saturday, out of 474 tested, & 17 out of 244 tested Sunday, they reported 123 active cases, 10 hospitalized & 334 quarantined.

The State Health Department reported Saturday, that they had 4,789 Patient Hospitalizations Statewide; the Lowest total since December 6, 999 Patients in the ICU; the lowest since December 9th & there were 682 on ventilators. There were 227,768 tested with 6,789 positive Saturday, the Statewide Positivity Rate is 2.98% for COVID testing on Saturday, there were 59 COVID-19 Deaths.

Governor Cuomo announced Sunday that restaurants outside of New York City can move to 75% indoor capacity starting March 19th, New York City Restaurants Will Remain at 35 Percent Capacity.

State Police reported that 15 year old Adrianna Leidecker was located late last week & was in good health. Leidecker left her home in Kirkwood late Monday or early Tuesday.

State Police are asking for the public to help locate a missing teen from the Town of Kirkwood.  15 year old Adrianna Leidecker is described as a white female 5’8″ tall, about 149 pounds with blond hair & blue eyes, she allegedly left with mate at night on March 1st or early March 2nd, anyone with information is asked to call state Police a 775-1241.

Chenango County Public Health reported another 9 new COVID positive Tests, bringing their total to 2461 since the pandemic hit New York State about 1 year ago.  Chenango County reports 67 active cases, 267 quarantined and 6 hospitalized, there have been 2253 recoveries and over 83,000 tests conducted.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported higher than expected personal income tax collections and the prospect of significant aid from the federal government, in his review of the Executive Budget, as amended by the Governor.   DiNapoli stated that New York is receiving at least $9 billion in federal Pandemic aid however the budget assumes an additional $6 billion in unrestricted federal relief and stimulus aid will be received evenly over the next two fiscal years.  The General Fund balance is projected to decline to $5.7 billion by the end of the fiscal year, down by 36% since March 2020, and the lowest year-end balance since 2014.

Otsego County Department of Health announced today that workers in any of the eligible groups to be vaccinated, that want an alert of COVID vaccine clinics, can email COVIDvaccine@otsegocounty.com.  Officials said that once you have emailed your contact information you will be notified by email of the next available clinic for the 1b eligible workers. Delaware County Public Health reported 14 new COVID cases Thursday out of 281 tested, there are 96 active cases, and 10 hospitalized & 416 are quarantined.  They have vaccinated 1248 people so far.

The first doses of the newly approved Janssen COVID-19 vaccine to be given in Chenango County were administered Thursday at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. The single-dose vaccine, developed by Johnson & Johnson, received emergency use authorization from the Food & Drug Administration on February 27th.  To be added to the vaccination list, those 65 and older can call 337-4888 or email their name, address, phone number and eligibility to cmh.vax@nyuhs.org.  Also, visitations resumed today at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich & Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.  1 visitor will be allowed per patient for up to 4 hours, visitors will be required to wear a mask, use a designated entrance, and be screened by personnel before going to see a patient, visitors under age 18 won’t be permitted.  Visiting Hours at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM and from 4:00 to 6:00 PM daily.  Specific details about visitation will be published at nyuhs.org and healthcare.ascension.org.

Delaware County officials announced that, Effective immediately the construction of the new Delaware County Behavioral Medicine building in Walton is being shut down as a precautionary measure, after 2 contractors working on the building have tested positive for COVID-19 and several coworkers are now quarantined.  The shutdown is in effect through March 15, the delay is not expected to impact the timeline for completion.

Chenango County Public Health had 9 COVID 19 positive tests announced today.  They report  62 Active Cases, 245 Active Quarantines, 6 are hospitalized and there have been a Total of 2452 Confirmed Cases since the start of the pandemic in New York State a year ago.

Bassett Healthcare Network is continuing partial visitation for inpatients at its hospitals, including A.O. Fox Hospital, Bassett Medical Center and O’Connor Hospital, with new hours beginning March 8th.   Visitation hours will be 3:00 to 7:00 PM daily, including weekends, Visitors may present 1 at a time, with a maximum of 2 persons per patient each day and a total of 4 hours per patient. All visitors must be screened for admittance, including temperature checks and a short questionnaire & all visitors must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a mask.  Visitation remains suspended at A.O. COVID 19 testing continues statewide, with over 270,000 tests conducted Wednesday, with 7593 positives, for a 2.8% Positivity Rate, the Lowest Since November 21st, there were 5,177 Patient Hospitalizations Statewide; the Lowest Since December 9th, there were 1,043 Patients in the ICU; the Lowest Since December 13 & 712 were on ventilators, the Lowest Since December 29th.  There were 60 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State Wednesday.

The state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced that all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or “SNAP” will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for March. The Sidney Central School District was notified that a 1st grade, 2nd grade and 8th grade student have tested positive for COVID-19. The students have not been on campus since February 26th, Delaware County Health Department conducted an investigation and contact tracing, there will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

Rural Health Network of South Central New York’s mobility management program, Get-there, has provided transportation assistance to 7000 individuals for health related needs since 2013.  On February 5th, a UHS Wellness Coordinator phoned Get-there looking for a way to get a 59 year old Endicott resident with Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio today.  Get there Spokesman Bill Wagner explains:

New York State will begin administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at state-run mass vaccination sites later this week. The Johnson & Johnson Vaccine is a single dose vaccine, and the New York State Fair site will begin administering the vaccine this Friday. The State Health Department tested over 218,000 people Tuesday with 3.5% testing positive, the number of hospitalizations, Patients in an ICU Bed & Patients on Ventilators continues to decrease; there were 75 deaths from COVID Tuesday.

Max the Pit Bull Mix has been staying at the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on State Route 28 in Cooperstown for 444 days as of today, Society Executive Director Stacie Haynes will trade places with Max all day today by staying in a kennel at the shelter to raise awareness to adopt dogs from shelters, as quickly as possible:

Chenango County Public Health has confirmed 10 additional Chenango resident deaths attributed to COVID-19 recently.  Officials reported that the total represents a culmination of weeks of record requests and reviews and not a sudden acute loss of life. The County now reports 63 deaths from the virus in the year since the virus was discovered in New York State.  Currently, the county has 64 Active Cases, 223 Active Quarantines & 8 Hospitalized.

It’s been a year since the first COVID case was confirmed in New York State, Currently; Broome County has had a total of 14,451 positive cases, with 314 deaths. There have been over 13,300 recoveries.  Statewide, over 38 million have been tested for COVID, with over 1.6 million testing positive, there have been 38,660 deaths.

NYSEG crews responded to power outages from last night’s high winds.  NYSEG reported that over 2000 Chenango County customers were without power last night for several hours, with much smaller outages reported in other area counties.   Most of the power in the local counties was restored by earlier this afternoon.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 men Monday for possessing controlled substances in the Town of Otselic.  The Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on Coakley Road in the Town of Otselic, 31 year old Chad Youngs was operating a rental vehicle, without a license, Youngs was found to be in possession of 69 bags of heroin, methamphetamine, packaging material, and a digital scale. Youngs was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 2 counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, A passenger, 30 year old Zachary Bumpus was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance; both men were issued appearance tickets for Town of Otselic Court at a later date.

Delaware County Public Health reported 12 new COVID 19 cases Monday out of 126 tested; they have 98 active cases, 11 hospitalized & 366 in quarantine.  Delaware County has had 1534 cases in the year since COVID first was diagnosed in New York State.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle for traveling 80 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone Friday in Hancock.   The driver of the vehicle was 60 year-old Lisanne Swim of New Milford, Connecticut, a routine inquiry of State DMV records revealed that Swim’s Driver’s License was revoked in 2009 as a result of an alcohol related offense. Swim was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding; she was released & will appear in the Hancock Town Court on a later date.

A 3rd woman has come forward & claimed that Governor Cuomo made unwanted advances to her at a September 2019 wedding.  33 year old Anna Ruch told the New York Times about the incident; State Attorney General Letitia James is already investigating 2 other reports that former aides to the Governor were sexually harassed by him.

Sidney Village Police responded Sunday night at about 11:00 PM to the report of a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks at the Main Street crossing.  Police stated that 27 year old Joshua Barnhart of Bainbridge attempted to turn into the parking area of Trackside Dining, got stuck on the tracks & vacated the vehicle, which was hit by a train a short time later.  No one was injured, Barnhart was charged with obstructing a railroad crossing, driving on the shoulder of a controlled access road & failing to report an address change to the Department of Motor Vehicles.  The investigation is also continuing by Railroad Police, and more charges may be forthcoming.

The State Health Department tested over 174,000 people for COVID 19 state wide Sunday, with 6235 Positive tests, for a 3.58% positivity rate. Patient Hospitalization was at 5,307, the Number of ICU patients was down to 1,065, the number of ventilators was at 741.  There were 80 deaths from the virus, the total amount of deaths in exactly 1 year since the first COVID positive was found in the state, is up to 38,557

Chenango County Public Health reported 37 new COVID 19 cases since Friday, with 2434 total cases, they report that Active Cases are up slightly to 70, they have 238 quarantined, 8 hospitalized and the total number of Deaths is 53.

The Village of Bainbridge reported a Water Main Break near Greenlawn Avenue today.  The water main break has been repaired,  residents on Greenlawn, Bixby & Kirby Streets are reminded that water may be discolored or there may be air in the lines, they advise  that you let the water run for a short period of time to alleviate the problem.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle with an expired inspection certificate last Wednesday.   45 year-old James Amato of Downsville is accused of driving with a suspended commercial driver’s license he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle along with several other similar charges, he was transported to the Hancock Police Department to wait for his girlfriend.  47 year-old Tarra Barnhart of Walton arrived & was also driving with a suspended driver’s license, she was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both were released and directed to appear in the Town of Hancock Court on a later date.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection announced it assisted 31,689 New Yorkers with a variety of consumer protection matters related to COVID-19 in 2020, resulting in a record $2,831,400 being returned to consumer’s wallets.  Those with questions regarding consumer complaints can call their Helpline at 800-697-1220 or dos.ny.gov/consumerprotection. Another former aid to Governor Cuomo claims that the Governor Sexually harassed her.  25 Year old Charlotte Bennett worked as a health policy adviser during the COVID pandemic, The Governor said that he made no such advances to Bennett; she received the transfer she requested.  Attorney General Letitia James released a statement saying that her office expects to receive a referral with subpoena power to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against the governor, the referral would be made solely to the attorney general’s office, and they will hire a law firm, deputize them as attorneys of our office, and oversee a rigorous and independent investigation.

Chenango County Public Health confirmed the 53rd COVID related death today.   Chenango County reported 7 new COVID positive tests with 66 active cases, 184 quarantines, they have 9 Active Hospitalizations, with 2195 Recoveries, and they have conducted almost 80,000 tests.

The State Department of Taxation and Finance today announced that registration for free virtual tax filing assistance sessions is now open. Officials said that if your federal adjusted gross income in 2020 was $72,000 or less, you qualify to receive free virtual tax assistance from the Tax Department. Binghamton Rumble Ponies & the New York Mets announced the 2021 coaching staff today.  The manager will be Lorenzo Bundy, who was scheduled to take the reins in 2020, but due to the cancellation of the season, never got the opportunity.  Bundy will be joined by pitching coach, Jonathan Hurst, trainer Kiyoshi Tada, Hitting Coach Bruce Fields and Performance Coach Dylan Cintula.  The Rumble Ponies season starts May 8th,   the home opener at NYSEG Stadium will be on May 11th.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker testified virtually for State lawmakers for 5 hours Thursday, regarding the state’s accounting of Nursing Home Deaths during the early days of the pandemic last year, He repeated that he would make the same decisions again, based on the facts that he had about COVID at that time:

Zucker has said that deaths of nursing home residents were categorized by the location of death, many of those were in hospitals and not in nursing homes.  The numbers have since been changed to categorize those who lived in a nursing home but died of COVID in a hospital, as a Nursing home Death, following an investigation by Attorney General Letitia James.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 49-year-old Kenneth Drumm of Waverly, following the execution of a search warrant in Windsor yesterday.  Drumm was charged with multiple counts of criminal sale & criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia & Criminal possession of a weapon.  Police seized crystal meth, a loaded shotgun, digital scales, and packaging materials used for weighing and packaging narcotics for sale.  Drumm was being held at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility pending court action.

Governor Cuomo announced that 12 community-based pop-up vaccination sites are being set up around the state, with an expectation to vaccinate over 3700 people throughout the week.  The Southern Tier vaccination site will be at the American Civic Association, 131 Front Street in Binghamton today from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

SUNY Oneonta has placed all of its athletic programs on pause following a recent increase in COVID-19 cases.  Team activity and practices are suspended until at least March 3, in which school officials will reassess the situation and make a determination on when to resume.  Otsego County Health Department reported 12 new cases on the Oneonta campus earlier this week.

Wedding venues and catering halls can reopen starting March 15, but must follow extensive guidelines recently released by the New York State Department of Health.  Officials reported that Venues must operate at 50% capacity, with a maximum of 150 people allowed at an event, participants must wear masks, venue owners or operators must Notify county health departments about in-person and catered events with more than 50 people, Enforcing social distancing during events, the full list of guidelines is available at governor.ny.gov.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino announced that as a member of the New York Conference of Italian-American Legislators, 4 scholarships are available to deserving students, 2 are for academic achievements & 2 are for athletic achievements, with each scholarship providing $4,000 per recipient. Applicants will be judged on a variety of criteria, they do NOT need to be Italian-American to apply, and applications must be received by no later than March 15. A Chenango County man will serve 6 months in prison for burglarizing a US Post Office.  24 year old Jeremy Cook of Eaton admitted that on August 12th, 2019, he broke into the Eaton Post Office with the intent to steal money; he attempted to break into a safe and then fled without taking any money.  Cook was also sentenced in Federal Court to 3 years parole after serving the 6 months prison term.

The State Health Department & Governor Cuomo announced that hospitalizations from COVID 19 continue to decline, there were 5,703 Patient Hospitalizations Statewide Wednesday.  The number of ICU patients was down to 1124, the number of ventilators is down to 774.  Statewide Positivity Rate for COVID testing was 3.14%, the Lowest Since November 27th;  there were 89 COVID-19 Deaths in statewide Wednesday.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 41 new cases of COVID reported Wednesday, & 1 death reported. 28 of the cases are in college students. In the past 3 days there have been 12 new cases reported in SUCO students and 31 new cases reported in Hartwick students, positive students have been identified and isolated quickly.

Delaware County Public Health reported that another County resident died of Covid-19 related complications, the county has had 42 deaths since the pandemic started.  They reported 8 positive tests out of 286 conducted Wednesday, with 103 active cases, 11 hospitalized & 206 are quarantined.

Sidney Central School district was just notified that one 2nd grade, one 10th grade student and one elementary staff member have tested positive for COVID-19. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office posted a link to the first draft of their police reform plan last night.  The documents can be viewed through a link on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, all law enforcement agencies in the state had to come up with a plan after Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order last year.
