Investigators have determined what caused Thursday mornings fire that heavily damaged Upturn Industries at the Bainbridge industrial park Thursday morning.   Chenango County Fire Coordinator Matthew Beckwith explains:

Beckwith said that the company is looking for a temporary site in order to continue meeting their workload. Upturn employs about 30 people and manufactures components for the Aerospace industry.

Sidney Troopers arrested 60-year-old Mark Dupuis of Torrington, Connecticut and 30-year-old Andrew Lavalley of Rensselear, for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrests resulted from a vehicle stop in Sidney; both subjects were issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Sidney Court on June 27th.

Voters in Sidney Center voted in favor of bonding for a new fire station, by a vote of 80 to 1.  The next step for the project is to finalize the plans and put them out for bid with the anticipation of breaking ground in mid summer.  The anticipated cost of the station is $550,000, the bonding of $300,000 over 15 years at 3% interest will give the district an average yearly payment of $25,000. The bond would not raise the fire tax by no more than the 2% state tax cap.

Sidney Troopers arrested 26-year-old Nicole Archambo and 34-year-old Joseph Cook both of Buckland, Massachusetts for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrests resulted from a vehicle stop in Sidney; both subjects were issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Sidney Court on June 27th.

State Troopers from Binghamton arrested 23-year-old Stephen Webber of Dingman’s Ferry, Pennsylvania for Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop initiated on Interstate 81 and ending on Foley Road in Kirkwood, where Webber fled into the woods.  Webber was apprehended and taken into custody; he was arraigned in the Town of Kirkwood Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail.

The 3rd annual Sidney Central School District Summer Programs are being offered this year.  Students going into in grades 3 to 8 in the fall will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of programs, Sidney superintendent Bill Christensen explains:
