Assemblyman Cliff Crouch announced that grants are available for businesses impacted by flooding from Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee through New York State’s Small Business Storm Recovery Program. Businesses are eligible to apply for low-interest loans, as well as grants of $50,000 or more to help replace machinery, moveable equipment, inventory, furniture and fixtures. STATE COMPTROLLER Tom DiNapoli released the results of an audit for the village of Unadilla board. The report stated that the Board adopted budgets that included overestimated expenditures, underestimated revenues, and the appropriation of fund balance to finance operations in 3 of the last 6 years, the funds were not available. DiNapoli’s recommends that the board should adopt realistic budgets that are based on the previous years’ trends in actual revenues and expenditures, should estimate their ending fund balance, avoid plans to use more than they have available.

DOT officials report that the State Route 17 eastbound ramp to Interstate 81 northbound will close tomorrow from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Crews will be performing steel girder work, and Route 17 eastbound will be reduced to 1 lane between the Airport Road exit 71 and the I-81/route 17 interchange.

Whether its flooding, tornadoes or a fire, a disaster or emergency can hit at any time. September is Emergency Preparedness Month. Emergency responders remind people to have a plan. Know where you are going to go and how to meet up with family members. People should also have a disaster kit with items such as food and a can opener, clothing, medications and hygiene items. You should have enough to last 72 hours, since often times, emergency responders need time to set up supplies and resources.
