The Chenango county sheriffs department investigated a reported shooting Thursday afternoon on county route 7 in McDonough.  47-year-old Connie Hendrickson of Greene was charged with 2 counts each of attempted assault, reckless endangerment and menacing, for allegedly shooting at 2 people and a vehicle.  Hendrickson was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango county jail on $20,000 bail.  Also arrested at the scene, 45-year-old Glenn O’Connor of Greene for criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned & was sent to the Chenango county jail on $5,000 bail.  Deputies also charged 28-year-old Kimberly Haughton of Greene with criminal possession of a controlled substance, for possessing meth; she will appear in McDonough town court at a later date.  The sheriff’s department said that the investigation is continuing and more charges are pending.

Governor Cuomo today announced the signing of legislation that will require birthing facilities to screen newborns for congenital heart defects through a pulse-ox screening.   Heart defects are present in nearly 1% of live births each year, and is the leading cause of infant death, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Adding this screening to the required list of examinations has the potential to save more newborn lives.

The Chenango Summer Jam will have a variety of acts performing all day Saturday in the East Park in Downtown Norwich.  The show is free to the public all bands and their start times are posted at chenangosummerjam.org.

The annual Sidney Elks “LOOKING BACK CAR SHOW” will be held tomorrow from 9:00 to 3:00 PM at the elks Lodge on river street in Sidney.  The event features a chicken barbecue, music, raffles and door prizes; the event is sponsored by Chamber & O’Hara in Sidney.

The 29th annual Broome County Spiedie Fest & balloon rally gets underway this afternoon through Sunday night at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton, shuttle busses are running between the site and the BCC Parking lot on Front street, among the highlights. A concert by 80’s rockers “Night Ranger” tonight at 7:30.
