23-year-old Alan Outman of Binghamton was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in Broome County Court, for the murder of David Fillers in Vestal on New Year’s Day.  Outman pleaded guilty to 1^st degree murder charge for killing Fillers and leaving his body in a culvert near the Old Vestal road and the route 201 flyover.

20-year-old Stephen Lipka of Vestal was sentenced for 1^st degree manslaughter in Broome County court today.  Lipka admitted to killing his girlfriend, 16-year-old Shelby Jenkins on June 14^th.  Lipka will serve 18 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

U.S Senator Charles Schumer warned New Yorkers today that if the “fiscal cliff” issue iis not dealt with,  New York dairy farmers.  Schumer said that Congress must agree on a budget or a 1940s law will kick in on new year’s day that will trigger higher costs, while farmers will lose their safety net as congress also failed to adopt a farm bill and renew the “MILC” program.  Schumer reported that retail milk prices could double to about $6 a gallon early next year.

Halbert said that the kids will also receive a free hot dog, soda and Triple Blast ice pop as well as the  “goodie bag”.

The Sidney chamber of commerce Jolly Holly Days continues this weekend, with the judging of decorated homes and the annual   Children’s Christmas Party Saturday.  Chamber President Kerri Green explains:

The children will also get to make crafts and read Christmas Stories, and 24 houses will be picked for the spirit awards, the winners will have a notification placed on their lawns.
