Governor Andrew Cuomo easily defeated Zephyr Teachout for the Democratic Party nomination yesterday, in the state party primary elections. Cuomo received about 62% of the vote, will Teachout getting 34% of the Democratic Party support. Cuomo will face Republican Rob Astorino on Election Day. In the Lieutenant Governor’s race, Kathy Hochul defeats Timothy Hu.

Republican State Senator Tom Libous fended off a challenge from Denver Jones in the 52nd District primary election Tuesday. Libous won with about 66% of the vote.

Local government capital spending on roads, bridges and water and sewer systems declined by approximately 8 percent between 2010 and 2012 according to a report issued today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. After a review of infrastructure studies, DiNapoli’s office estimates that municipalities should be spending about $3.9 billion annually to keep up with deteriorating capital assets but are only spending roughly $1.2 billion – less than a third of what is necessary. The Binghamton Senators announced Tuesday, it has reached an agreement with its parent National Hockey League club, the Ottawa Senators, to remain their American Hockey League affiliate. The agreement will keep the B-Sens the top affiliate for Ottawa through the next five seasons. Ottawa, who has been affiliated with Binghamton since AHL hockey returned in 2002.
