State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer and a van on I-88 near exit 7 in Afton. The accident occurred at about 1:45 PM, and least one person was killed in the crash, the names of those involved have not yet been released, the high way closed east bound from Harpursville to Bainbridge for about 4 hours for accident reconstruction investigators to determine what happened, and for the subsequent clean-up..

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Ty Tumminia of Binghamton in connection with the January 25th robbery of Ruby and Son Jewelers in the Town of Chenango. Tumminia is accused of displaying what appeared to be an explosive device while ordering the employees to empty a display cabinet. Tumminia was located yesterday in the Town of Dickinson and taken into custody without incident, he has been charged with 1st degree Robbery & 1st degree Placing a False Bomb, and he faces court action shortly.

THE Greene fire department responded to a fire Monday afternoon at around 1:00 pm, to a structure fire at 349 County Route 1. The fire started in the attic and knocked down quickly by firefighters, with no injuries reported. Crews from Smithville, Triangle & Chenango Forks responded the cause of the fire is under investigation.

An inmate at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional facility has been arrested and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband. Officers found contraband consisting of marijuana and matches in a cell assigned to Antwoine Fort of Albany. Fort was arrested and will be arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court shortly.
