State Police at Oneonta are investigating a grand larceny at the Mirabito Convenience Store at State Route 23, Oneonta.  Police stated that on Monday at 5:40 a.m., a lone black male entered the store and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash from the cash drawer when it was opened by the cashier.  The suspect then left the store through the front entrance door and fled the scene on foot in an easterly direction.  There were no weapons displayed or threatened.  He is described as a black male, wearing jeans and a dark colored jacket.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police at 432-3211.

A new law prohibits people from smoking on a playground in New York. The law prevents smoking at playgrounds between sunrise and sunset. Also, people can not smoke when children under the age of 12 are present on a playground.  The law aims to protect children from the dangers of toxic chemicals found in secondhand smoke.

By producing 692 million pounds of yogurt, New York surpassed California as the top producer in the US in 2012. A $1.5 million gift from Chobani to Cornell University in Ithaca will support research and workforce training in dairy quality to help maintain New York’s competitive edge. The funding will be used to create opportunities for faculty, students, and staff, including food safety and quality workshops as well as graduate student support for relevant research initiatives.

The Delaware County Office for the Aging will be conducting its annual public hearing, at 9:00 am at the Public Safety Building, at 280 Phoebe Lane in Delhi.  Staff members from the Delaware County Office for the Aging and Delaware Opportunities will discuss their service plan for seniors in the year 2014.  The hearing will be open to seniors, community leaders and the general public.

The Otsego county Chamber of Commerce will hold their 14th Annual Small Business Banquet tonight in Cooperstown. The Banquet is at The Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown. Congressman Chris Gibson will share some opening remarks. The dinner will start at 7:00 pm. More information about the chamber is available at 432-4500.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Central School will hold a Board of Education Meeting today in the District Conference Room at 6:30 PM. The business portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 PM.
