On Saturday, at 7:30 PM, Former World Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes is coming to the Oneonta Theatre, to celebrate the release of the audio book version of his former rival’s biography, Meet Marvis Frazier: The Story of the Son of Smokin’ Joe, which was co-authored by Jamie Potter of Otego. Holmes won the Championship in 1978 and held the title until 1985; He told WCDO News that he would be in attendance Saturday in Oneonta:

Marvis Frazier was the amateur World Heavyweight Champion in 1980 and had a professional record of 19 & 2. One of his losses was to Larry for the championship in 1983.

The city of Oneonta will officially open the new Lower Wilber Park Pedestrian Bridge over Oneonta Creek today. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the east end of Spruce Street at 10:00 AM. Eastman Associates constructed the bridge along with subcontractors Unalam & Cobleskill Stone Products, at a cost of $178,000.

State Senator Jim Seward announced senate approval of legislation he sponsors, allowing Delaware County to enact a “bed tax” on hotel and motel room rentals, following a home rule request from the Delaware County Board of Supervisors. The legislation allows Delaware County to impose a “bed tax” of up to two percent on hotel and motel room rentals. The bill has been sent to the assembly where companion legislation, has been introduced by Assemblyman Cliff Crouch and is expected to pass prior to the conclusion of the 2015 legislative session.

Growing local grain for flour markets is catching the attention of farms in New York. Cornell Cooperative Extension in Delaware County will be holding a program on flour grains today from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Extension’s resource center in Hamden. More information is available at 865-6531.
