The Village of Sidney will held their 23rd annual Sidney Arbor Day program this morning at Bill Ray field, with the dedication of a tree in honor of Bill Ray, Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak commented:

A Crimson King tree was planted on the 3rd base side of Bill Ray field this morning, the dedication was attended by members of Bill’s family, the Sidney Shade tree Commission & the state DEC.

The Oxford Village Tree Board will be holding its 22nd annual “Tree City USA” Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, at 9 a.m., at the LaFayette Park bandstand. Plans include an award ceremony beginning with a proclamation; The National Arbor Day Foundation named Oxford a “Tree City USA”, for its twenty-second year in a row.

Volunteer fire departments across New York State will open their doors to local residents this weekend as part of the 5th annual “ Recruit New York” program. Fire department volunteers will conduct tours of their facilities, demonstrate firefighting techniques, and allow visitors to try on turnout gear. Members will discuss the requirements and rewards that come with being a volunteer firefighter, & help interested visitors through the process of joining their local Department. Last year, over 500 fire departments across the state participated.

The Sidney Central School Observatory will be open tonight, from 8:30 TO 10:00 PM. The featured attractions will be the 1st Quarter moon & Jupiter. Several telescopes will be available for viewing, including the Main Scope inside the DOME. The event is free & open to the public, THE observatory is Located behind the Sidney High School building.
