Another 777 people died from the Coronavirus in New York State Thursday; bring the total up to 7,844 since March 1st.  Governor Cuomo today said that in spite of the large number of deaths this week, other numbers are suggesting that the state has “Flattened the Curve” & the same strategies must continue:

The State Labs are continuing to develop the testing of Antibodies, the state labor department unemployment online application has been simplified & streamlined, and people are reminded to not participate in any sports where groups of people are in close proximity like basketball or golf.

The Broome County Health Department is up to 112 have positive Coronavirus cases out of 818 tested, about 220 are in quarantine, there are 6 deaths in Broome County & 23 people have recovered.

Chenango County Public Health now has 60 confirmed cases out of 315 tested, there were about 385 in quarantine, 9 were recovering in a hospital & 7 have recovered.

The New York State Board of Electric Generation Siting and the Environment upheld their own decision from December on Thursday, in which they rejected a request for a rehearing by 3 concerns & which will allow Bluestone Wind, LLC to build and operate 27 Wind Turbines & its associated network in the towns of Sanford & Windsor.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in finding 16 year-old Elena Moose of Port Crane, who has been missing since Tuesday.  Moose is described to be a white female with blue eyes and brown hair.  She is 5 foot 4 inches and 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a red jacket and leggings.  The Sheriff’s Office believes that she may be in the Jamestown or Ogdensburg areas.  Anyone with information should call 778-8861.

State Police at Oneonta are currently investigating 2 instances of an individual impersonating a police officer in Otsego County.   The two incidents both involve a person impersonating a police officer conducting traffic stops in late March, the suspect asked the purpose of the motorists’ travel and warned they would be fined for violating the “travel ban” if they were caught on the road again.  Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police in Oneonta at 432-4844 or 432-3211.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand urged President Trump to support requiring employers to provide additional paid sick leave during a public health emergency in the next relief package for working families quarantined at home & not collecting a paycheck, during the Coronavirus pandemic:

Senator Gillibrand said that exemptions and rules put out by the Trump Administration for current emergency paid leave provisions exclude more than half of the private sector work force, leaving out tens of millions of low income workers from the country’s biggest corporations.

State Police arrested 39 year old Brian Carver of Earlville for 3rd degree Arson, after an arson fire at the Lighthouse Community Church located on South Main Street in the village of Earlville.  Carver was transported to Chenango Memorial for minor injuries; he was processed and arraigned remotely via computer.  Carver was released and is ordered to appear in the village of Earlville court on May 13th.

Delaware County is reporting no new cases Thursday, but they report a 2nd death as a result of COVID-19. There are still 42 confirmed positive cases, there are an additional 31 people under mandatory quarantine and 1 person under precautionary quarantine. To date 320 people have been tested. 5 confirmed cases have been transferred out of the county to where the person actually resides, 5 are isolated in a hospital, 23 are isolated at their homes, 7 have fully recovered and are no longer in isolation.

The Otsego County Health Department announced their 2nd death from the Coronavirus this week.  The have 35 confirmed cases, 5 are hospitalized, 12 have recovered, 98 people are quarantined and 46 were released from quarantine.
